Deccan registers another win! :D
I feel sorry for Sangakkara, watching him at the post-match ceremony... he is my favourite SL player after all. But I can't be happier with the Deccan win.
I must say though, after the brilliant start that we had with the ball, we did mess up royally by letting Irfan score so many runs (RP, what were you bowlinggggg-- but oh everytime he smiled, I forgave him. Yes yes, I know I'm an idiot of the first degree, don't tell me). But at least we snuck home in the end. We definitely need to work on that consistency issue though.
Can I just say, how much I love Gilly as captain? I love the way he's always so energetic and jumpy on the field. The way he's constantly marshalling his troops around the field. The way he keeps making bowling changes and never lets the batsmen settle. I like how he runs all the way to his bowlers and fielders to whisper encouragement in their ears or some strategy or something. How he's as excitable as any youngster new to the international scene. And the best part, I love the way he trusts his team. Like Dhoni. They both tend to show random bursts of inexplicable trust in some player you wouldn't ever expect and that player will pay off their trust by performing too! I adore that trait, that ability to extract performances from your team while earning their admiration and respect.
Deccan oh Deccan. Even when they lose, I can't seem to stop supporting them. Like in the first season. It was so easy to change loyalties back then. After all, everyone was seeing all the teams for the first time ever. Nobody knew what kind of dynamic or anything to expect. But I knew I would be rooting for Deccan from the start, and I was never tempted to change loyalties even though they lost almost every match in the first edition. I don't even know why I stuck by them at that point... I guess somewhere deep down, I just knew they'd be awesome one day :D Haha, nahh, I really don't know. Everyone laughed at me then. "Deccan Chargers??" they'd say. "Why them? They're rubbish!"
I also had a rubbish answer. "Because RP is in it, and so are Gilly and Rohit and Gibbs." But it was more than all that. I had, somehow, formed a connection with a team I had very little reason to feel affinity for. See, I never felt that with Bangalore, even though Dravid is there and so are a number of other players I like.
And then came the second season, when Deccan won.
I had the last laugh then :D
Here's to more success this season.
